Orchids’ family is said to be the 2nd largest flowering plants family. It is morphologically very diverse and widespread monocots family. The order to which it belongs is Asparagales. The flowers are known for their mesmerizing beauty and hence, compliments shower on those who grow orchids. Although it is said to have more than 2400 species and approximately 800 genera, yet enthusiasts have successfully come up with thousands of types of orchids.
While orchids love tropical climates, they can yet be found in every sort of ecosystem. They are an accessory till now and were very prominent in 1800s. Whatever species are known may not be the only ones. People believe that there may still be more than 5000 species yet to be seen and felt by humans. Even now, per year, more than 200 species surface in various forest areas. Orchids are definitely one of a kind. Their beauty and charm has overtaken many gardeners’ interest and these days, orchids have found a place in every other garden, private or commercial.
Gardeners love to grow these and hence, they also take appropriate care of these flowers. One thing that most of these species can not withstand is sudden temperature drop. It can easily kill the plant and it will die quickly. One more thing in concern to these plants is that they should not be subjected to direct sunlight. It is essential that they are planted on shady land. Of course, their beauty needs to be maintained and care is what Orchids want.
